Yedda allows users to ask any question to an online community and then receive answers; it’s similar to yahoo answers and was in fact purchased by AOL in 2007. Users can ask any question that they want and then community members can then answer them; other people are then free to comment on the answers and make their own suggestions. Users can also search through a database of previous questions. Some users can register as an expert of a certain field; if you are registered as an expert you will receive an email whenever one of these questions is asked. Yedda makes money through advertising and also has a number of deals with other sites.

Yedda was founded in January 2006 by Avichay Nissenbaum and Yaniv Golan, the company is based in Israel. In November 2007 the entire company was acquired by AOL. Competing sites most notably include Yahoo Answers but also smaller sites such as Oyogi and Wondir. Yedda was renamed to Aol Answers in August 2010.

There’s only so much that can be done with a site where you ask and answer questions and so it’s very similar to almost any other site. If you are familiar with Yahoo Answers then you will have no problem using this site. It does offer the option to personalize the site for you so that you can see questions that you would most likely be interested in. The ability to register as an expert will also mean that you receive emails every time someone posts a question in your chosen category.

The application is very simple to use and also has quite a clean and simple design. When you first visit the homepage of the site you will see a scrolling list of recent questions, clicking on one of these will bring up the question and any responses. Answers can also be ranked by voting and choosing which one is the best. Using the application is quite enjoyable and answering questions is also really easy.

It’s possible to browse questions and read answers without signing in, this is similar to many other question and answer sites. You will need to register for an account if you want to comment or write your own questions to ask people. Registering for an account with Yedda is exactly the same as any other site, there’s quite a large signup button on the homepage of the site, and then you have to fill in a fairly standard signup form. Make sure you check the box to confirm you have read and accept the terms and conditions, you are then signed up. Once you have completed this you will be asked for some extra information to personalize the experience. You will also be sent an email which you will need to click on a link inside to verify your address.

Yedda is completely free to use, it makes money from lots of advertising banners and partnership deals with other sites.

Yedda could be useful for anyone that is trying to find a way to ask any question and get honest answers. Although some of the answers might not be helpful the sheer numbers of users mean that there’s a good chance of getting a good answer. It’s no where near as popular as Yahoo Answers, but that might suit some people and many people might prefer to use such a site.
